Spatial Planning of a Charging Hub Network for Heavy Electric Trucks and Prospects for Its Use in the Logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Abstract
Purpose. To develop scientifically grounded approaches to the spatial planning of a network of charging hubs for heavy-duty electric trucks in Ukraine based on mathematical modelling of the transport network and to determine the prospects for their application in the logistics support system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Мethod. The study employed a combination of general scientific and specialized methods, including systems analysis, analysis and synthesis, content analysis, comparative analysis, mathematical modelling, graph theory methods, optimization modelling, linear programming, and computational-analytical methods. A graph-based model of Ukraine’s transport network and the PuLP software library were used to optimize the placement of charging hubs.
Findings. A graph of Ukraine’s main transport corridors was constructed, key logistics hubs were identified, and a model for the optimal placement of charging hubs was developed, taking into account the driving range of heavy-duty electric trucks, the technical characteristics of CCS2 and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) charging technologies, and regulatory requirements governing drivers’ working and rest periods. The study substantiates the prospects for integrating heavy-duty electric trucks into the logistics support system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Practical implications. The proposed approaches can be applied to the planning of a national charging infrastructure network, the development of transport logistics, and the modernization of the logistics support system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Value. The study develops a scientific and methodological approach, adapted to the conditions of Ukraine, for the spatial planning of charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric trucks by integrating transport modelling, optimization methods, and the requirements of military logistics.
Paper type. Empirical research article.
